Starting as early as fifth grade, my well-rounded rear ("bubble butt," as the mean classmates would say) was subject to scrutiny from the other kids on the playground. That led to years of insecurity about my genetic inheritance. The recent pop-culture fixation on curvy bums (thank you, J-Lo and Beyonce!) has brought on a whole new awareness and appreciation for bigger butts. A male friend of the Asian persuasion once told me, "your butt is like a work of aaahhrt," bless his heart. This image is actually my friend Shannon, whose bum is naturally a work of art. "Bunda" is Brazillian slang for celebrating the woman's healthy rear as the simplest and most expressive form of beauty and sensuality. I love that they have a word for this.
